September brings on thoughts of back to school and Fall, which for the Photos By Kathryn team means jumping straight into holiday planning mode!

We have an amazing assortment of holiday cards this year! Two options for card sizes are available; a 5X5 Trifold and a 5X7, both come with a classic white envelope. For those that wish, customized classic family envelope seals are available as an add-on. Our holiday colour scheme is stunning red and lovely blue that when put together create a contemporary, whimsical feel. Prices start at $285 for 50 cards.

Another additional add-on that we have created this year is a 8.5 X 11 holiday letterhead template for you to create your own holiday update letter or message and send out to family and friends. Photos By Kathryn will customize the template letter with your photos and it will be sent to you to use as you wish…to email to friends and family or print out and include in your greeting cards. Price for the customized letterhead is $75.

To have your holiday cards for December 1st, orders must be placed by the end of October.

Island Time; Photos By Kathryn on location in Victoria

We have been considering photos on location in Victoria for years, and this was our year.

We flew in by float plane for two days of perfect weather, shooting thousands of frames of relaxed, happy, giggly family moments. We would do it again in a heartbeat!

Photos By Kathryn Cuts Session Fee in Half!

Over the past couple years; everyone has felt the economic crunch. This year, Photos By Kathryn is making ourselves more accessible when you are cutting back. So, we are pleased to announce that until August 31st, 2011 we will be cutting our session fee in half.

Instead of paying a session fee of $550, you will now be paying a retainer of $800. That is $275 for Kathryn’s session fee (a 50% savings) and $525 will be put towards product.

So just what product can you get with $525? Here are a few examples…but the combinations are endless.

In addition to our price restructuring we wanted to let you know of a few new service offerings we have implemented:

·      Last Minute Facebook Specials Life often takes us somewhere that wasn’t planned, and sometimes that means that our clients have to cancel their photo session last minute. We now post last minute specials on our Facebook Page: Photos By Kathryn to fill our late cancellations spots. ·      Bonus Photos All clients that place an order within 24 hours receive a bonus of (3) 5 X 7 photos so you can look like a hero and pass one to each of the grandparents and one for the office desk (photo only – frame not included).

·      Low-Res Disc of Images We have also realized just how much our clients love to share their family images. All clients will be given the opportunity to access to an online album to share with friends and family and will be giving a low-res disc of images for your phone, your online sharing, your laptop etc.

·      Complimentary Home Consultation Photos By Kathryn has extended our service offering this past year. For those that wish, we will now come to your home for a consultation, mapping out your perfect photo wall. The $200 fee for this service is waived if order is placed within 24 hours.

·      Professional Installation We want to make sure your order graces your walls for your enjoyment, so for those that are short on time, or those that are handyman challenged, we can have our professional installer out to your home to hang your pieces so your can begin enjoying your new photos immediately.

Beautiful images of your most cherished possessions are meant to bring joy everyday not stored on a hard drive…after all love is beautiful.

Picture Perfect Baby Sedin

Recently we were  invited by the Sedins to come to their home and photograph teeny weeny new baby Anna. It is right in the middle of play off season and Vancouver is buzzing with excitement, but the vibe inside this house was giggly, cozy and light. I hope we managed to capture that.

Baby Anna was the perfect little subject, super squishy and cute, and giving us little sleep grins at all the right moments.
Big sister Ronja and brother Erik are even cuter than they were last year and we always look forward to capturing their cute little faces.

Headshots for Your Shining Stars

March is the month for your little shining stars! Photos By Kathryn is offering a great rate for headshot packages for the month of March. Sessions are about 30 minutes in length and you get a disc of the colour images for $275. All sessions need to take place by March 31, 2011.

The best part of being a family photographer….

One of the best parts of my job is having families come back year after year, watching their kids grow and become little people. This family has been to me every year since their eldest was 6 months old,  the girls are what I like to call “giggle monsters”, so much fun. And mom Erin always lets us do whatever we want, how can you not love that? I am very appreciative of the kind comment that Erin shared on the Photos By Kathryn Facebook page and wanted to share with everyone.

“After many failed attempts to capture one of Kathryn’s 12 Days of Christmas specials – on the 11th day luck was on my side – and this past Saturday, once again, my girls were delighted to be photographed by Kathryn. Everyone was so relaxed, I’m not sure if I was out for coffee with an old friend or the girls were on a play date. The only problem was trying to pry them out of the studio – the youngest, urged on by a sudden sense of freedom, dancing around in her underwear!

Kathryn brings her Photography to Calgary

Photos By Kathryn (PBK) is pleased to announce upcoming travel dates for Calgary, Alberta. The demand for Kathryn’s family and baby photography in Calgary has been growing, and after making special-request-trips out to Alberta in 2010 for photo sessions, Photos By Kathryn decided to add Calgary to her on-location list permanently.

Alberta, and specifically Calgary seem to be a good fit for PBK. The cities interest in photography as art, made the location seem like a good fit for her classic black-and-white style portrait work. Kathryn will provide her standard menu of items to her clients in Calgary: pregnancy, baby, child, family and corporate photography.

Calgary now joins San Francisco, LA and New York on the Photos By Kathryn travel list.

Photos By Kathryn Plans for 2011 and Talks Outsourcing with Globe and Mail

I was recently interviewed for Mia Pearson’s column  in The Globe and Mail, on the benefits of outsourcing as a small business (Side note: The article is in tomorrow’s Globe and Mail in the Business Section). I do quite a bit of outsourcing: I am a firm believer  in doing what I am best at and delegating what I’m not.

One of the main areas I have outsourced is marketing. My marketing director, Crystal Munro, has become indispensable to me in the 3 years we have worked together . The seeds of my ideas become full-fledged blossoming gardens  in her hands. Couldn’t live without her at this point.

Together, we have done a fair amount of plotting and planning for the upcoming year, here are hints of some of what we have planned in 2011 at Photos By Kathryn:

• Social Media: We have a strong focus for increased visibility in the social networking communities. You know you can easily reach us by phone and email anytime, but we have now added Twitter and Facebook  as places that clients who want to know what we are up to can check in. The promotion that we are currently running, “12 days of Christmas” has been so successful we may actually make it an annual thing, and our recently launched “Last Minute Deals” ( announced 2-3 days prior to sessions that have become available due to cancellations) are catching on quickly as well.

• Full Service Studio: Translation: We will do all the work. All you need to do is get the family together for the family and we will do the rest.We know how busy our clients are and sadly a trip to the photo studio is something that can get put off as  busy lives get in the way. In an effort to make your photo experience effortless, we are now coming to you less throughout the whole process. We work with our clients to determine what their needs are and for those that prefer (or their schedules prefer) a hands-off approach, we will come to you with a portfolio of what we feel will work best for your space and even hang it on the wall.Speaking of which, the art installer Photos By Kathryn hired this fall is the most recent example of outsourcing. With 30 years experience installing fine art, he is clearly  an expert, and can get the job done quickly, expertly and beautifully. We have had nothing but raves from the clients who have had him in to their homes to hang their Photos By Kathryn.

• Additional Products: We like to keep quiet on our products until they are fully launched, but what we can say is that we have been keeping a close eye recently on just how our clients like to use their images. 2011 will see us roll out more ways for you to get the most of your session.
