Sneak Peak of 2010 Holiday Cards
August 25, 2010
We are giving you a sneak peak at the 2010 Holiday Card Collection by Photos by Kathryn. This is simply a tease as we have only shown two and there are fourteen different styles for you to choose from. In addition, this year we are excited to announce that we have as added to our card line up a Hanukkah Card and a New Years Card.
We are still a few weeks of fully launching out holiday 2010 collection, but what we can tell you is that they are a stunning combination of snowflakes, sepia and sparkle. We have kept the popular red metallic envelopes that compliment our holiday red and introduced a winter blue card that is accompanied by a metallic icy blue envelope. This years cards offer more selection then ever before with fourteen different styles available as well as a Holiday Insert to create a premium stationary look.
Contact the studio for more information and to book your session at 604.488.1254. Sample Cards will be available in studio as of September 13th.
THE PATTERN
The pattern used throughout each of the cards is our signature branding of the scrolls with snowflakes dancing among the pattern to provide a festive holiday feel.
THE 5 X 7 COLLECTION
The 5 X 7 Card Collection focus is on a 3/4 fold so if you look below you will notice that the right panel is shorter than the left on the front. This allows for the Love is Family of the inside panel to peak through when folded. Cards are available in all red with sepia photos or blue with black & white.
THE SQUARE COLLECTION
The square collection is back with various trifold options. The card shown below is just one of the many options available.

When folded the words are the first viewed when card is opened to complete the front phrase of Love is...
THE HANUKKAH
We are pleased this year to offer the addition of a Hanukkah Card. The defining design in this, is the creation of the Star of David as the inner part of the snowflake. This design element is a part of all snowflakes in the holiday pattern that is shown throughout the card.
THE INSERT
The insert has a gray scale version of the holiday pattern. It is available with a personalized message, a standard holiday greeting, or simply with the holiday pattern to let you handwrite your message to your recipient.
Photos By Kathryn in New York
August 23, 2010
What an inspirational trip we’ve just had to New York. Our client, Susan Almrud, is an art dealer who shares her time between Vancouver and New York’s West Village.
She flew my assistant Emily and I out for the week to photograph her new little guy, Sebastian. After taking in the city for the first evening , the next morning we headed over to Susan’s for the afternoon. It was such a luxury to have all the time we needed with Sebastian to capture every little newborn move.
We had some great “alert” time together, and he opened his baby blues wide for the camera. Lucky for us, we had worn him out to the point where he slept soundly right through all the adjustments we made to make his sleepy photos just perfect. And mommy, Susan, had the most beautiful textures on hand! Cashmere, mohair, and sheepskin all added magic to the look of these photos, and the cozy comfort of little Sebastian, who really did not cry the whole time. What an angel!
The mother and child portrait (see below) we did is one of my favourite of all time, what mom does not know that wonderful feeling of cuddling up in bed to your perfect little newborn?
Those weeks of newborn bliss are such a fleeting time, everyone deserves beautiful portraits of these moments.

Photographing the Essence of a Young Adult
August 19, 2010
In the last post, we talked about summer getting busy with families from all over the world coming to Photos By Kathryn for their session. Although we are best known for our work with babies and little kids, we can’t stress enough what a joy it is to capture young adults, it is a different look and a different way of working- trying to capture that look of a person who is just learning who they are.
Above are a few from the session we did of an Iranian family. These girls are 15 and 24, and sooooo beautiful. It was hard to stop taking photos of them.

Happy, Silly and Cute as Three Peas in a Pod!
August 16, 2010
Summer tends to be a time when business rapidly picks up , and it seems every year that it is just a blur of cute little sweaty kids bouncing around the studio and then it’s over! As well as us being flown to various locations to photograph clients in their homes , this summer we have had lots of people from all over the world come to us for photos. Families from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Iran, and other parts of Canada have made the Photos By Kathryn one of their stops during their summer trip to Vancouver. We love to have them. Here is a family from Ottawa, they came to the studio 3 years ago when their middle daughter was a baby, and made the trip again this year as they have added a baby boy to the family. Jet lag, sleepless nights and wacky schedule issues aside, this session was fun. The kids were just the way we love them: happy, silly and cute as three peas in a pod!

Awaiting Debut of Baby Malhotra
August 11, 2010
One of my favourite parts of this job is to meet a client during their first pregnancy, and to watch their family grow over the years. Joann, Manny and Caleb came to us when Caleb was in the belly, and then when he was born; travelling from various other places they were living to have these photos taken. Now that Manny is our newest Vancouver Canuck, we are happy to see them call Vancouver home. With a second baby on the way shortly, we captured the three of them, waiting for baby. The session was full of life and laughs, and we can’t wait to meet the new little Malhotra, come September.

PBK Baby Photography Goes On-Location in NYC
August 9, 2010
It is always an honour to photograph a new little life, the excitement never gets old for me! This month the honour is even more exciting and special, as one of my clients is flying myself and my assistant Emily out to capture her newborn in her home in New York. This client, an international art dealer, had her belly photographed in my studio here in Vancouver, but gave birth in her second home, New York. So today we jet set to her home in the West Village, to meet her new little guy and make sure we get every little scrunchy stretch and sleepy smile during his first few days.
Stay tuned for photos of the little guy from the big apple!
